Not necessarily - the purpose is NOT to occupy the north but to make sure they're not a viable society or, at least, not a viable society that can build a military of any kind. Why? They don't misuse their military as much as we misuse ours. -Don- SSF, CA

Swamp YOU REALLY need to take a visit to Vietnam , the Americans went bankrupt over that shit hole , in 1968 it got so tight that troops from Germany were being sent to Vietnam , we simply couldn't cover all the squares , if Canada had joined in instead of selling shit to the enemy things might have been different .

IIRC, Canada was there. All of about six troops or so. And what did Canada sell to the commies? -Don- SSF, CA

Russia is bombing IS into oblivion, which is something we didn't do. With that in mind, we nearly bombed the NVA into oblivion, especially with the Linebacker campaigns, as Nixon said they were going to be bombed like they never have been bombed. So, with recent events, perhaps the VN war was winnable after all.
Any thoughts?

I asked what the USA would have won. Besides that, it seems Vietnam is doing fairly well as is. Certainly won't compare to commie North Korea. IMO, commie Vietnam compares better to South Korea than North Korea as it is. -Don- Reno, NV

As for comparing Vietnam to South Korea, the latter is far more prosperous.
