Didn't China make it clear that if the US occupied Nth Vietnam, they would invade? When I was in Vietnam I kept on hearing such BS. But if we're so chicken, why were we in Vietnam to begin with? We shouldn't try to start a war that we refuse to finish because of a threat from another county. -Don- Reno, NV

"Chicken"? a land war with China? you jest of course?
You could not even give Nth Vietnam a hiding, how the hell could you give China one?
The days of late 1945 are long gone, you have not won a war since!

"Chicken"? a land war with China? you jest of course? Then China could have ended the Vietnam war and won for North Vietnam at any time. But why should we be afraid of China when North Vietnam was not afraid of the USA? I little mickey-mouse half country against the USA is fine, but the USA too chicken to go against China? Something is wrong with that picture. You could not even give Nth Vietnam a hiding, how the hell could you give China one? The days of late 1945 are long gone, you have not won a war since! If we were not so chicken of China, we could have blown North Vietnam right off the map. Besides, how do you define "win" from a military standpoint? Around 58,000 American KIA's. A couple of million NVA/VC KIAs. That sounds like a landslide win for the USA military to me. It would be a lot more accurate to say the USA military has never lost a war. We just cannot say the same for our politicians who try to control such. But their interests are different. As long as they are making a lot of money for whoever supports them, they could not care less about the outcome of any of our wars. The entire world runs on BS and the first casualty of war is always the truth. -Don- Reno, NV

Yes they have, but the last thing China wanted was a US 'puppet' on her southern border.
China had FAR more chance of booting the US out of North Vietnam than the US had of successfully taking on China in Nth Vietnam, The US was near exhausted finding 500,000 troops at its height. Imagine telling America's mothers the Government wanted to double or triple (or quadruple) it.
Canada would have been over-run.
Nothing against the US fighting man, but the task is suicidal. SJ

The US was the one to leave the fight remember, not NV. And China could lose 5 times that and still win!

The days of late 1945 are long gone, you have not won a war since! Two Gulf Wars, the Cold War, Grenada, Panama, the initial phase to the Afghan campaign.

NOT wars, they are BATTLES!
....and Iraq is still there, a thorn in the side of the US. And how you can call Afghanistan a war won is beyond me.
I will concede the US defeated Granada, 5/4, but it was a "damned close run thing". (Where the phuque is Granada?)

But, if they had just stuck to their mission plan, namely to destroy the AQ and get out, then they would have won. Hitler's war involved world domination.
In any case, the US did win the two Gulf Wars, no question about that.

I repeat, they were NOT a real war, they were simply battles.
'Overlord' was just a battle, not a war. To 'win' a real war you must be able to march your troops down the enemy main street, UNARMED!
Maybe in Granada!
