He hasn't done it yet, but he's apparently looking into it - there's a difference.
In any case, I have never accepted the idea of buying houses all over the world. A person can only live in one at a time, and, if he did want to travel, he would do better to rent for the time he's there. Otherwise, those properties are just dead weights.

Yeah - and it's such a crummy little shack, who'd really want to be stuck with it?

Hard assets, not money in the bank or the Government are the way to go now.
A house is a house for generations if you look after it.
Port Macquarie is nice little hideaway if you can stand all that sunshine and balmy sea breezes.

Actually Boomerang Beach and Blueys Beach nearby are an hour and a half drive from Port Macquarie and behind are Wallis Lake and Smiths Lake, a beautiful natural part of New South Wales, Australia.
Great Lakes Council district where I live.

But he's gotta travel pretty far just to enjoy the beach, so why not just do it in Hawaii?

Here's an article from Bloomberg on why you should rent a vacation home, not own.

Rather have a house on the beach than a Fixed Deposit in the bank!
..or a US Treasury Bond!

Rather have a house on the beach than a Fixed Deposit in the bank! ..or a US Treasury Bond! Buying real estate as an investment is one thing; buying it as a vacation home is another. The point is that, if you want a vacation home, you should rent it, so you will have the freedom to vacation wherever you want. And, if you want real estate as an investment, you can do that too.
