People may still have consciousness after "death".
A large-scale study involving 2060 patients from 15 hospitals in the UK, US and Austria has found that patients experience real events for up to a three-minute period after their heart has stopped beating.

I wonder how I missed this post. A stopped heart is NOT an accurate indication of death. There are countless logical reasons why some people have so called NDE's. Drugs used in the hospital is only one of them, but there are many other reasons.

But they were brain dead, so how could they have experienced what they did ... unless there was something else besides the physical body.

They were not really dead. They only appeared to be dead for a short time.
