The NVA apparently lost more than the ARVN, but it won the skirmish because the Ho Chi Minh Trail remained intact, even though its plans for an offensive were set back by a year. What I didn't know before is that there was a generational gap in the officer corps, with the older ones being experienced in WWII but not understanding airmobile warfare involving choppers. This new book apparently draws on sources not previously available, and the author is apparently ex-military.
