The full effects of the 1929 crash weren't felt until 1933 because the top was still spinning people still had a little money stashed and those in rural areas didn't have any money but they had plenty to eat , there was nothing to fear but fear itself aid our muti-millionaire FDR .

The banks crashed in 1933 and that made everything a lot worse.
That event may be one of the reasons for trying so hard to keep the banks open now, society falls in a BIG hole if the banking system crashes, just ask Cyprus and Greece.

.......and as an aside, the US banks in those days were often very small banks established in rural areas, and based on the economy of that area. If that fell in a hole, so did the local bank.
