I know her from Facebook, and I look forward to her European perspective on North America. Stephanie, can you tell everyone about yourself?

Welcome Steph,
another lady is just what this forum needs, but we don't get too many posts from them, at least so far.

Hey guys!
How nice of you to welcome me like this. I am completely new to this and have yet to find out what this forum is all about. But i'm excited to be apart of it. I am 26 years old, i'm a weight consultant, author and I live in Holland. I am completely crazy about America and it is my plan to move there within a year. I've never been there so everything you'll ask me will have a positive answer (haha). So who are you guys, what do you do and how do you think I could contribute to this site?
Take care and I look forward to your answers :-D

A weight consultant? Where were you when I needed you? ;D Well, I still do, but only to keep me on the right track.
Good luck on the forum as many of us are old geezers, pretty well set in our ways. But we are from all over the world so it is nice to welcome another country and another woman to join us. We're kind of fond of America as well but sometimes folks like Sir Johm, McNoch, Swampy keep us in line and keep our heads from getting too big. Like you, Swampy is enamored with America and wants to be one of us. Luckily we are too finicky and fussy to allow another lawyer be a citizen but he keeps insisting he wants to be President (just a small problem with the constitution about that though). Just jump in whereever you like and we'll try to keep you entertained.

I gotta lose weight myself. We talk mainly politics and economics, but we could use someone to talk about lifestyle matters.

"So who are you guys,"
All on this board (except one) are uncouth layabouts with nothing better to do bu argue politics and economics. Sometimes even of things military.
The exception is a young handsome Australian with vast knowledge on all subjects.

I hope we're not going to drive her away. Stephanie, these are mostly ex-military, and they're also mostly Americans. I've been hoping to get more Europeans on this forum, so we can learn from each other.

Nice to see someone else from Europe here. And from Holland! My brother-in-law lived in Amsterdam until he died a number of years ago. I visited him way back in the deep dark past and loved the time I spent there. I have a long lasting memory of going out to the North Sea just at dusk and standing on the beach while these huge waves came rolling in. The awsome power was magnificant to behold. I recall that memory when I need to calm my nerves, and use it frequently when I am having trouble getting to sleep at night.
As to what you can add - any comments from the perspective of a European citizen are most appreciated. We can become rather self centered over here if we are not, occasionally, brought into contact with the rest of the world. Welcome aboard!

Hey guys, Haha, you make me laugh. I will gladly share my knowledge about health with you, if it is wanted. I must add that I am not your typical weight consultant. That profession is actually just a small part of what I do. Instead of focusing on food and weight, I help people to take a look at their mindsets, actions and life. For everything starts with the way you think and in my opinion; there needs to be more focus on passions, dreams and things that make you happy. Sir John, young handsome Australian you say? Don’t tempt me, I have been single for too long . Yes…us Dutch people will easily say what we think. I have to admit that I always used to get F’s in Economy class and I have never particularly like politics. Wait, don’t throw me out just yet! I have gotten more interested in these subjects lately because of my plans for the future. Politics for instance could teach me how to become a better business woman; in terms of compromising, dealing with people, making decisions, convincing someone. And of course; I should be more aware of what happens in the world. In case you’re wondering; the reason why I am just now getting more involved with the world, is because I’ve had an eating disorder from age 15 till 24. During that time I have been completely out of it. So that’s why I don’t know much about these topics. But I would like to learn. Just bare with me whenever I say something that would make you roll your eyes! Jerry, I completely agree; Amsterdam is the coolest city in Holland. And the oceans are beautiful. I love it that it’s always so ridiculously windy. In the summers the beaches are always packed. I have always lived in the South of Holland, but a trip to Amsterdam is always so much fun. So military… this might be my first dumb question but has anyone actually been in a war? And I always wonder how someone ends up in the military, for it must be so scary. I hope to hear from you soon, Take care, Stephanie Velings

Jerry served on the Union side of the American Civil War and I served above the war in Viet Nam (I flew in a Navy plane on missions over northern South VN and over North VN). As far as I know, I never had a bullet fired at me. Missiles, yes, bullets, no.
As to how I got in the Army, originally it was because I just wanted to get it out of the way before I became a golf professional. I was in less than one day when I knew this would be my career. I then had silly notions of being a spy and being dropped behind enemy lines. I had to settle for a little of the former and none of the latter (although I normally was within a few kilometers of the front line). Never did become a golf pro although I was an extremely good amateur.

Hey Denny,
Wow, that's serious. I cannot imagine that at all. I do get that ambition to become a spy. That is always cool. But I'd rather play it as a game than to go into the military of course. I must say that there is a huge difference between the army and a golf pro! Do you play alot nowadays? My first boyfriend was a golf pro (really; he was in the top 50 of the world) I liked watching him play, but I hated playing it myself because I sucked at it. Haha. So where do you live now?

Steph - The way into the military is strange and varied.... I stumbled on to my career in a strange way. I went to Cornell University (a land grant college in which ROTC [Reserve Officer Training Corps]was required for the first two years). My family had no military experience prior to my enterng this program so I had no idea of what to expect. During those first two years, I as impressed by the quaity of the instructors and intregued by the subject matter. Those were the days of "an Officer's word is his bond" and "duty, honor, country."
When it came time to volunteer for the advance course, I did. I graduated as a "Distinuished Militay Graduate" and was offered a Regular Army Commisson as a Second Lieutenant. I have served two trours in Germany, one in Ethiopia, and two in Vietnam in the Army Signal Corps. I retired here in Carlisle, Pennsylvania (home of the Army War College) I would return to active service in a minute if they would have me.

Guys, anyone who has seen her on FB will know she's HOT.
Yes, I used to work quite a bit, and I do need a lifestyle person to talk to - as do the rest of us. I'm not a vet, by the way.
