So they consider that a difficult intellectual, or such, achievement. There was a time when it was popular to smuggle women's nylons to the USSR because the Communist technology could not produce nylons for females. I don't know how much the NORAD actually has to fear.......

I don't know how much the NORAD actually has to fear....... When I was stationed in West Germany the last time (mid-70s) we used to trade Sears catalogs and Zippo lights for Russian hats, belt buckles and even great coats with the border guards. Those poor guards were no more than kids right off the farm and were so eager to get a hold of anything American.

Would've been a cinch to trade goodies for military secrets.

Especially if you like the idea of a one way trip to the Gulags of Siberia.

If you're on the border, and you're trading from your side, no problem.

Would've been a cinch to trade goodies for military secrets. Those poor kids who were border guards on the east/west border didn't have any secrets. They barely knew how to pee in a pot! The ones who manned the guard posts as you drove into Berlin were different. They were sharper and much smarter. There was very little interaction with those guys.

Would've been a cinch to trade goodies for military secrets. Several years ago I read about a West German soldier who sold military secrets to East Germans. Floppy discs, that kind of material. Finally he moved over to the East German side, ie. defected. Soon the soldier decided to come back, having seen what the life in East Germany was like. He redefected to the West German side.

Did they throw him in the clink? The newspaper story did not mention that point -- maybe did not mention it because it is actually certain that they did throw him into a prison. High treason by a military individual is an extremely grave thing as everyone knows.

I understand that a person is not drunk as long as they can lie of a floor without holding on.

So Finland should NOT fear joining Nato. I don't think that they are afraid. Rotten politicians have prevented that political development, as I have previously said.
