That is the first step toward a full recognition as an independent nation. The USA and Israel voted against this motion, Germany, UK and Netherlands abstained, most others voted in favor.
This improves the position of the Palestine government, but is not necessarily a step forward to peace. It will restrict the political movements of the Israeli government against the Palestine government(s). We will see how this will play out in the future. But it clearly showed that Israel has run out of favor with most governments in the world.

That is not so clear, in general it will be West Bank, Gaza and East-Jerusalem.

It is not logical to grant statehood to an area that is controlled by two different political factions, the PLO and Hamas. The PLO and Hamas can not agree on a subject between themselves, let alone Israel.
As Denny would say, it is like pissing up a tree.

If I was Netanyahu I would walk out of the UN and tell them if they want Israel they can come and get it.

But I wonder why the USA cares if Palestine is an independent country or not. I mean Israel and Palestine can still bomb the crap out of each other, so what difference does it make?

And I thought that Obama had done so much to improve the influence of the US around the world??? Only seven other countries agreed with us--- doesn't sound too influential to me....

What do you think of Canada's Communist Party (I mean, socialist party)? Which communist party? There were two in Canada, splitting the Marxist vote. at least until recently. ;D
