Citigroup Inc. said Wednesday that it will eliminate 11,000 jobs, or about 4% of its workforce, and take a related $1 billion fourth-quarter charge.
The bank has been under increasing pressure to cut costs to lift returns, and Citigroup's new chief executive, Michael Corbat, has said his priority is to make Citi a leaner and more efficient bank.[More]

But, yes, if one sector is declining, another sector can grow - that's why we want a large, diversified economy.

Sorry about that. It is the first time I've tried to link to that page and wasn't sure it wuold work. You got the 'meat' of the story in the quote. Just went on to say that the new CEO warned that there would be changes....

When our customers think that our Indian SAP-specialists are too expensive, we offer them our SAP-specialists from the USA. But as no company wants due to the official espionage via the Patriot act any support or data-storage from the USA, they would have to come to Europe and with all the travel- and hotel-costs they are not cheaper again.

Hmmm, there seems to be a debate on whether American manufacturing is making a comeback, because America's trade deficit in manufacturing is expanding even in high-end industries. Of course, America has always had a deficit, so this may mean nothing. I'll still say American manufacturing is on the comeback, but I'll be watching this debate.
