Was doing a bit of reading on 'Flash Mobs' and it turns out that the term goes all the way back to the female transported convicts (3 of which were my ancestors) in Van Diemens land (now the Australian state of Tasmania). They developed a group language and customs over time, and called themselves a "flash mob". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_mobSJ
