This was part of the longer-term trend that was delayed by 9/11. But this is going to continue. One thing, though - the US has been refusing entry to Canadians who have been convicted of even minor offenses, which is totally unnecessary and which prevents them from spending money in the US. If all goes well, that will change.

In the early days of British colonisation of Australia New Zealand was part of the now state of New South Wales but has long been a sovereign nation in its own right.
For a long time now there have been discussions regarding New Zealand becoming a state of the Commonwealth of Australia and representitives from NZ have attended all of the Australian Constitutional Conventions as observers. There has also been discussions about using the same currency in between time.
Canada and the US having a similar relationship makes good sense in my opinion.

It makes great sense, but there's a difference between the two regions. Australia and New Zealand were never in a war against Britain; Canada was formed when the British Loyalists fled the aftermath of the American Revolution, so there is an constant anti-Americanism in my country. In the last century, there was talk of Britain, North America, Australia, and New Zealand forming a greater anglo-saxon whole. These days, we talk of a commonwealth of all nations, and I would welcome that, if not for a bunch of cockroaches who like to come over and bring their religious hatreds with them - and go on welfare at the same time.

Swampy as you know the British Commonwealth of Nations is a group of sovereign nations talking to one another and trying to solve issues, the UN based Fabian Socialists want a world without borders controlled by a world government, see Agenda 21 and others relating to the control mechanisms they have been introducing nation by nation when socialist governments are in power. Using a long list of international law treaties that have been signed because a socialist left government can waive national laws and allow the international laws to be enforced.
A Commonwealth of Nations with all nations members is the United Nations isn't it? And that does not work very well, apart from having been infiltrated by the socialists and expanded for their agenda purposes.

But if it's controlled by neoconservatives ...
