Inequality is one reason why demagoguery is on the rise. And, one way or the other, this growing inequality is going to stop.

Another look at inequality----
A group of us 2d Lts were standing outside the classroom building as Ft. Monmouth when a staff car pulled up and stopped at the curb. The driver got out and ran around the back of the car to open the back door for a Major to get out. I commented "Look at that - he could have opened the door and got out by himself." Another 2Lt replied, "Yeah - I hope they don't change it before I make Major!"
Guess it depend a lot on from which side of the fence you are looking at it....

Inequality eh?
I wonder if that is why they are building 'ghost cities' all over China. Keeps the workers in a job and sending money home to mum and dad.
Cannot have another Tienanmen Square can we? And never forget that of that 1.4 BILLION Chinese, about a billion are still living the way they did 200 years ago.
Saw a series of pic taken in China of a couple of tourists. After a saw about 20 I realised what it was really about. The backgrounds showed the utter poverty of the slum dwellers in the big cities. The squalor in the streets and inside the homes.
Now that the One Child Policy is ended we can assume a doubling of the birth rate in China over the next few years. That will not fix the sex ratio problem anytime soon.

I would have thought that right would only be reserved for generals.

Nope. Pretty much up to the officer involved. I normally rode in the front seat and opened my own door. But that's me - I also grew up on a farm where anyone who was waited on was old or handicapped.

You are a true officer and a gentleman. From my armchair, with no military experience, I would tell my officers to forget the perks - everyone opens his own door, and we live and work in spartan surroundings. The only focus is victory, and nothing but victory.
