It looks like the Prez will nominate ex-Sen. Hagel as the new SecDef. Despite the fact that he is a Republican, the GoP is already putting out the word that he will not have an easy path to the job. His stands regarding Israel and Iran are generally contrary to that of the party line. The fact that he is a combat vet is pretty appealing to me but I don't know enough about the man. Without going to wikipedia or the like, does anyone know anything about this guy one way or the other? Also, does anyone find it interesting that Obama has had two GoP SecDefs?

Many Republicans contend that Hagel, who left the Senate in 2008, at times opposed Israel's interests. He voted several times against U.S. sanctions on Iran, and made disparaging remarks about the influence of what he called a "Jewish lobby" in Washington.

So what? I disagree at times with the blind faith and trust that we put in Israel, not to mention all the money. I don't agree with him about Iran any more but I definitely agree that there is a Jewish lobby in DC when it comes to Israel. I see nothing wrong with that as long as we don't continue to kiss their feet as we have done over the years.
