1941 Percey and his Generals are at the Club enjoying a Gin and Tonic the conversation comes around to the Japanese , Percey asks what does this Yamashita Fellow want ? a bit Crude isn't he , one General spoke up Yamashita want's Singapore sir , Singapore ? that idea is absurd the man must be daft said Percey doesn't the he know we outnumber him 3-1 absolutely absurd .

I think they were at the Raffles Hotel, around a comfortable boardroom, and the consensus was that they had done a nice day's work, ol' chap, so it was time to surrender and go to a comfortable POW bed.

No doubt it was one of the biggest bluffs in war time history Yamashita was almost out of ammo supplies and soldiers , but he did have air craft and he cut off the water supply to the mainland Percey was in over his head and considered Yamashita a thug who would do thuggish things to the people of Singapore .
