Jay Rockefeller, who has been a senator for three decades, will be retiring. The Washington Post has an article on the power of American dynasties, like the Rockefellers, the Bushes, and the Kennedys. But it doesn't consider the dynamic nature of American society, never mind the tumultous nature of a vibrant democracy. First of all, the Kennedy's rose from obscurity to becoming a dynasty, and, as they and the Rockefellers fade back to obscurity, other families will replace them, like the Clintons. Second of all ... I don't have a second point, at least not now, but I would welcome other people's thoughts. .

Is he a Republican or a socialist?
A lot of rich people are socialists, live like capitalists and talk like socialists.

Ah, Democrats and other liberals - nice to have hard working proletarians looking out for the poor, like the Kennedys, the Rockefellers, the Roosevelts, the Clintons - you know, working class politicians who aren't rich capitalist exploiters.

The Clintons certainly weren't rich when they started out. I'd say that they didn't begin to acquire REAL money until he was out of office. The others came by their wealth through family and many wealthy families believe in sharing their wealth with those who aren't as fortunate. Some do it for show, others really mean it. For some reason, you don't hear as much about rich Republican families who help those less fortunate, but they're there nonetheless.
