These 'experts' really make me tired!
If a 1000lb bomb goes off maybe 300 yards away the shock wave will not kill them, maybe shrapnel will, but that is all luck.
This expert is telling me that 1000 bombers dropping 4000 lbs of bombs each will send shock waves 20 or 50,000+ feet (1000Kms???) into the air. (Did the USAAF ever have 1000 bomber raids?)

Like you, I doubt anything coming out of research universities these days, but I read accounts, way back when, of how the massive bombing raids made the nearby waterways boil.
