When I was in, and you can check with Don about this, ANYONE who admitted they were queer (the word "gay" had not been invented then) were not only shown the doo rbut were also subject to mental and physical harrassment at the hands of their fellow soldiers. While this may have changed, my guess is that in the "elite" fighting units this will continue to be a problem is gays come out to their fellow troops.

But I doubt we will ever hear about any probems, Denny. Not PC to admit problems with social engineering programs....

But I doubt we will ever hear about any probems, Denny. Not PC to admit problems with social engineering programs.... I will do a clear translation of Jerry's words for the other readers here:
"I said there will be problems, but so far, there are none. Since this is not possible, because I cannot be wrong, it has to be that we're just not hearing about the many problems it caused to get rid of DADT."

Not "anyone", except perhaps those from backward states such as Texas. It was the minority that had a problem with queers, IMO. These days, that minority has gone way, way down, mainly because of all the queers being open about it.
Harvey Milk (RIP) was my hero, because he was saying gays should start bragging about being gay during those days when it was difficult, him being one of the first and ended up being elected as SF Supervisor as the first openly gay man in politics. He said gays won't get anywhere if they all stay in the closet. And boy, was he right!

Unlike there in Canada, there are NO real legal same-sex marriages in the USA. Not even one, inside or outside of the military. Just read our DOMA.
I assume if a gay couple wants a quick easy divorce from Canada (or Mexico), all they have to do is move to the USA.
The USA is way behind most free countries on this issue. We're now surrounded by countries that allow full same sex marriage.
While Mexico only does same-sex marriages in Mexico City (for now), they are legal ANYWHERE in Mexico, so all it takes is a trip to Mexico City.
Gays get harassed here by our federal government. Look into how gay couples who are "married" by the state, or are RDP as Tom & I are MUST do their taxes (it's tax time here). A spokesperson for the IRS says it's "ridiculously complex and expensive". Most who work at the IRS doesn't even understand it. Most that are done 100% correct are rejected for that reason.
First, Tom and I (two people) must do THREE federal returns (and that's the easy part).
The problem is because of CA saying we are married and the federals saying we are NOT married. Pure harassment. OTOH, we pay the same CA state tax as would a married couple, but pay much more to the feds than would a married couple.
If they tried to do this nonsense to married heterosexual couples, I would just love to see what would happen. I wish they would! Like I said before, there is more than one way to be treated equal in this so-called free country.

What type of nonsense is that? See ANY modern dictionary for the definition of marriage.
And the legal definition of marriage is whatever the current law says it is.
