....to all of our vast membership here, though I fear for the future of this Forum that I have held dear for about 20 years.

Merry X'mas to you too.
But we have since added DrY and Obliqueweapons, so we're still chugging along. But, whatever happens, we all enjoyed each other's company for awhile, going all the way back, as you said, to Compuserve days.

SJ, When I was a teenager, during the 1970's, I used to frequent a comic shop, which has been a fixture of the comic book scene all this time. Now, it's closing, so a part of Vancouver's history will go. But, as I thought of it, it didn't seem so tragic - other comic stores have arisen, and I go to the one near my place. In fact, I never went to that comic shop for the longest time, and, when I did go, a couple of weeks ago, I met up with a staff member who knew the same people I did. So, yes, there can be some sadness, especially as we get older, but life moves on to better things. The same is true here. Compuserve is gone, but this forum continued for several years, along with its FB cousin. Even if this goes, there's still the FB, and, when (not if) that also goes, some of us will still be around to continue the conversations.

Fond memories of 'The Phantom', many Walt Disney comics, and I think mostly in book form, 'Tales of the South' and the stories of Brer Rabbit and Brer Fox. Then the stories of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn.
Somehow I managed to 'translate' the southern slang of 'Tales' into real (Australian) English. I graduated then to Charles Dickens and almost all of his books. Finally William Shakespeare.......

I just had lunch today with a senior lawyer, who was my mentor when I started out. He's not into comic books, but he read about the comic shop closure, and he says that he does feel a certain sadness when a long-standing institution of any kind goes away, but that's life, and, without that, society would stagnate. He's of course right, but I guess I'm going through a middle-aged phase that he's gone through, and I'm going to have to learn to move on.
We've moved on from Compuserve, though I have fond memories of the people, but, as they will say in a few days, in with the new and out with the old.
