www.abc.net.au/news/2019-04-01/2019-hottest-march-on-record-in-australia/10959828Sounds terrible as it is meant to be, but what they are talking about is a MAX temperature in an area not AVERAGE temperature. Thus the two main red areas (not pink) on the map are almost entirely arid desert subject to crazy temperatures in any one year. Check out 'Marble Bar' and its temperature record. In fact the two shades of red and the two shades of pink would hold no more than about 2% of the entire population of Australia. As the text accepts, we get "hottest on record" headlines every month, season, year etc ad infinitem. Much like the boy who cried "wolf". SJ

Make that 1% - 250,000 people.
At a rough guess, I would say 175,000.
