Psychologists know of the brain-mind duality, though they don't know what causes it. I know of the AWARE study mentioned in this article - that was the experiment to see if patients in operating rooms were really having out-of-body (OB) experiences, as opposed to hallucinations. The researchers placed items that could only be seen from above, and the patients who claimed to have OB experiences were asked to describe that they say. They described what happened at the operations - confirmed by the doctors and nurses - but none of them saw those hidden items. So the experiment was a qualified success.
