We have martial arts enthusiasts, here, so I'll start a thread on this.
I've been thinking about martial arts for the 21st Century. Today, a warrior should not focus on nunchaks or tonfas, because those are literally weapons of the middle ages. A warrior should be trained in learning how to use a pistol and assault rifle. I'm open to him learning to use a sword, for close combat, but not traditional karate weapons.
As for unarmed combat, I would go with Bruce Lee, to keep it simple - a punch is a punch, and a kick is a kick, so forget about silly patterns, which are pretentious. In fact, over my life, I have known many martial arts instructors who secretly think the same thing, but they just don't want to make waves, so they keep quiet.
And a warrior should also keep fit, which means regular workouts in the gym, with weights and calisthenics. Of course, kicking and punching routines are calisthenics in themselves, but a practitioner can get two in one.
Any thoughts? Let's get a discussion going.
