Didn't know I was so powerful. Seems this forum is so much better than when it was on CompuShaft. A lot more active members and such. Is that because of Facebook or something which helped get the word out? Anyway, whatever you did get this forum going was an excellent idea! I just wanted to say "thanks!" for your time and effort for doing such a great job! -Don-

And, yes, Facebook was instrumental in getting this forum going. Please feel free to contribute over there, so that the other members will want to come here as well. Prem is from the Aussie forum, which can only add to our family. The admin, Scrooge, gave me permission to poach.

I disagree with that article - I think she was posing in an anti-aircraft gun. And she was the guest of a genocidal regime, being the North Vietnamese communist government. why're we reviving a thread from 2012?

When I came across that article, I just happened to remember that ten years ago you mentioned her here. There were a lot of war protesters back then, perhaps she was just one of them--perhaps she wasn't much worse than most of the others back then. But she sure got a lot of fame out of her trip to NVN. -Don- Reno, NV

She went to North Vietnam and posed in an anti-aircraft gun. The protesters were wrong, because the US was fighting a genocidal regime. Furthermore, from what I remember of a 60 Minutes interview decades later, Barbara Walters interviewed Hanoi Jane and gave one of her quotes, where she encouraged soldiers to desert.

Just about everybody disagrees with you WRT the protesters being wrong. That includes the then US Defense Secretary Robert McNamara. If it were not for the Vietnam protesting, we would probably still be fighting in Vietnam today! -Don- Reno, NV

McNamara was an idiot - he and his ivory tower buddies were talking about signalling via infiltration rates and bombing rates, when the North Vietnamese were infiltrating to overthrow the government of South Vietnam. What the US should have done was do what Reagan said - bomb the north into a parking lot and be home by Christmas.

I recall Goldwater saying things like that, such as "I could have ended the war in a month-I could have made North Vietnam look like a mud puddle." -Don- Reno, NV

Everybody knew that, including you and me. "It's silly talking about how many years we will have to spend in the jungles of Vietnam when we could pave the whole country and put parking stripes on it and still be home by Christmas." -Ronald Reagan
