Forest fires out of control all over the place , Yosemite Park big time , thousand evacuated homes going up in smoke , Obama has threated to cut short his vacation to see about it but has not reached a decision yet .

Sad, Yosemite is such a beautiful place. SJ Here in Reno, we are being bombarded with smoke from the fires in Yosemite, Forest Hill, etc. It's getting hard to breathe, can't even see the hills a mile away. It was smokey here even before the Yosemite fires, because of the Forest Hill fire. Seems the wind is going over Reno from both places. And it's now smokey in all areas of Reno, and well past. We decided were going back to SSF tonight just to get out of this smoke. -Don (cough!)- (in Smokey Cold Springs Valley, Reno, NV)

We made it back to SSF by 0430 hrs. We left Reno at midnight. Seems all the smoke is in Reno. When we drove back to SSF, we were just north of the Forest Hill fire and no smoke at all. Reno is MUCH further away and is full of smoke. As soon as we got in the mountains, there was no noticeable smoke and clear sky all the way west. Anyway, it's nice to be back in SSF, where we can breathe the fresh air coming from over the pacific ocean instead of the smoke coming from over the mountains. -Don- SSF, CA

Are there more big forest fires than in the past or are they today only more closly monitored by the media?

Mother Natures way of clearing out the dead wood was a Fire caused by lighting in most cases , today many people have moved into these areas and people's carelessness has been the cause of many of these fires , there are more fires today than in the past .

Over here, our media insists that all bushfires are "deliberately lit".

Over here, our media insists that all bushfires are "deliberately lit". SJ If so, then GW isn't the cause.

Texas cranks 'em out 10-15 a year , in Texas the death penalty means death , Florida is second on the list with 6-8 a year .

A lot of fires around the New South Wales mid north coast today, town and country fire trucks on the roads. But not too serious so far
