Do not, please, confuse Don with facts. His mind is made up and, only he, knows how right he is. He is convinced that the North Vietnamese communists only wanted peace and unity for their country and that the imperialists of the united States brought nothing but misery to an otherwise peaceful people. (Or is it that he resents his being drafted to serve in a foreign land? And thinks that had the US ignored its treaty obligations, his life would not have been so disrupted?)

That's not true at all - with the 1954 partition, there was a massive exodus from the north, despite the communist attempts to stop the flow. And even after all that, there were still many more potential voters in the north. -Don- Reno, NV

BY far, most people in the USA (and the world) realize our war with Vietnam was a very big mistake. "The Vietnamese people deeply love independence, freedom and peace. But in the face of United States aggression they have risen up, united as one man." --Ho Chi Minh "It [Vietnam] poisons everything. It has disrupted the economy, envenomed our politics, hurt the alliance, divided our people, and now it is interfering with this critical question of the arms race." --James Reston "Vietnam is a military problem. Vietnam is a political problem; and as the war goes on it has become more clearly a moral problem." - Eugene McCarthy -Don Quoteman, Reno, NV

What seems to be the problem with a few in this forum they can't seem to grasp the fact that U.S. was NOT at war with NVN .

AFAIK, the USA has not declared war on anyone since 10th Dec 1941.

Like I told you, the documents from the ICC show that very clearly - I posted them in the old place, and my opponent at that time had to concede it.

Like I told you, the documents from the ICC show that very clearly - I posted them in the old place, and my opponent at that time had to concede it. A few went north then too. Uncle Ho had a lot of support in the north. Even if the boarders were left wide open, he still would have won an honest all-Vietnam election. But we would rather kill them than let them have an election. We only like to force elections on those who don't want it. Such as in Iraq. -Don- Reno, NV

After the CIA did away with Diem and conveniently started running the place perhaps the U.S. had a Tiger by the tail , it turned out S.Vietnam was not only useless it was a pain in the ass , by 1965 the U.S had about as many advisers as SVN had soldiers , so enters the Gulf of Tonkin and LBJ had the opportunity to prop up the mess , by 1968 the U.S. had an Army in Vietnam that thought they were suppose to win the war in fact did win the war , problem again the S.Vietnamse were still useless , now the U.S. was ready to cut their loss and get the fuck out of that place , the rest is history .
