Hitler was as cunning as a latrine rodent, but a fool militarily. Germany's fate was entirely on his shoulders. Agreed, but, if he was to blame for Germany's failures, he should be given credit for its successes - the generals who blame him for everything can't have it both ways.

Hitler was in command because he and his party managed to come to power with a relative majority as they managed to eliminated the opposition and then stopped the democracy. After that his regime no longer needed public support, which crumbled massivly since 1941.

Surely if Hitler had called an election in late 1941, or even to mid 1942, he would have been elected in a landslide.
It was only Stalingrad in early winter 1942 that turned the tide.
