After a year that can only be described as “stupid,” the Chevy Volt is gearing up to make 2013 even stupider still. I know, I know. You find it hard to believe that a mostly-owned subsidiary of the United States government and the Obama administration- like GM is- could get any stupider than say Fannie Mae, or Federal Reserve Bank. Yes, that’s tough competition, but in the “idiocy” category GM seems to be the ruling champion. Not only have they lost substantial amounts of taxpayer dollars, they have managed to do it while generating record profits even though they still have an unfunded pension liability of over $100 billion. The pension liability is more than twice as large as the company’s current valuation on the stock market. GM has now all but admitted that in it’s current iteration, the Chevy Volt- the car on which the company says it pinned all its hopes and dreams- is dead. That could be a sign of progress, but alas, no. Because as a result they have introduced a Cadillac version of the Volt power plant just to make the stupidity a bit pricier.

The US government is also subsidising the all electric Tesla sedan which is selling for about half what should be its retail price.
Apart from the minority of feel good buyers most will not pay a substantial premium price for all electric or hybrid vehicles when the same or equivalent vehicle with conventional power offers the same ride.
And then there is the question of generating electricity to charge vehicles.

Amazing, no brake lines, no electrical wiring, no radiator hoses, no fuel line ......... otherwise, well done.

It is possible that it may have been modified with quick disconnects here and there.

Oh well that's JEEP for you. Since I own a Jeep, I'd like you to explain your comment.

I actually thought I understood Aussiehumor pretty well. Guess not. Here in the states, Jeep stands for "just empty every pocket". Mine is just barely a year old and I've had to replace a tire and a windshield, not to mention how many scratches I've acquired in the desert and mountains while looking for rocks. I get a magnificent 18 mpg so you know that I didn't buy it for economy purposes! ;D At the age of 71, this is my (at least) third mid-life that I'm going through.

Kept them in the Motor Pool.....

When you're spending taxpayer money you don't have to be very smart .

Denny are you aware that Mahindra Motors of India manufacture various motor vehicles based on JEEP components?
They are now selling into Australia and one of my service guys is a dealer and he informed me about the mechanicals.
