Nobody is going to change their favorite browser for just one forum. Come on Swampy, spend $50 a year on a hosting account from 1&1 and switch to SMF (simplemachines.org) and you can import your current member base and posts, and then you can have full control of your forum instead of kissing ass at Proboards. They should call themselves Amateurboards. Or better, and even cheaper, you can go away and find another forum. You won't change your browser, at no cost, for one forum but you want us to change our forum, at $50 per, for one member?? What am I not seeing here?

No one is looking into the fact that Greg is the only one that seems to have a problem logging in , the only one . would that not suggest something to anyone ? . If you had to create "a macro" then I'm not the only person with a problem, or you wouldn't need "a macro." Yeah - I did need a macro - until I found the box to check to keep me logged on. Now I don't need a macro and everything is working fine. My guess is that it is something at your end.... Why is a macro in quotes?

I use both Google Chrome and Internet Explorer and do not have to sign in each time since I checked the little box on the sign in page to keep me signed in.

You won't change your browser, at no cost, for one forum but you want us to change our forum, at $50 per, for one member?? What am I not seeing here? The $50 isn't for me or to solve my problem. It's go get a hosting service and have a decent forum software, and have control of owning your domain (website). Free forums are all crap. Stanley if I were you I would get a hosting service (like 1and1) and a domain name, something like militaryaffairs.org (except that's probably taken) and set up with one of the Open Source forum softwares, like SMF or phpBB. The three best forum softwares available (IMO) are SMF (free), phpBB (free) and vBulletin ($$$). I think SMF is the best. www.simplemachines.org I once ran a test to see how long it would take me to register a new domain and upload and configure SMF, and ended up with a working forum in about 30 minutes. I'm telling you this because I know you'll need a real forum software (vs. free forums, which are always owned by the site owner, not you). Note that most forum databases (the posts, members, etc.) can be converted to a new software by conversion packages offered by the forum software authors. In the case of SMF or phpBB that's free too of course.

There are less than a dozen regulars on this forum. The odds of me spending any money as as good as the odds of Jerry giving me a raise.

And any raise that I'd even consider would not cover the additional $50 for a new forum..... I'd PayPal Stanley $10 to cover 1/5 of the cost. If Stanley kicks in $10 we'd need only 3 more to complete the circle. Stanley, say the word and I'll PayPal you $10 right now, conditional on your getting an account on 1and1.com (I have many years with this host and they've had excellent service). I'll install SMF on your account if you wish, and get it up and running. If you doubt my expertise at SMF please email/pm me and I'll establish my credentials as an SMF expert beyond any doubt. Note that you will have to leave Proboards.com and I haven't verified that SMF has a Proboards converter. From what I've seen your board hasn't got that many posts anyway, not that I'm complaining. The benefit you would obtain is complete control of your domain and your software, and Proboards would have no say overhow you operate your forum. In addition you would be able to migrate to phpBB or vBulletin (if you can afford the price) or etc. I'll kick in $10 (one-fifth of the first year) if you convert to a professional hosting service, and I'll agree to kick in another $10 for the second year if your conversion is successful, thus paying one-fifth of your hosting charges for two years. If you pay the same then all we need is three more people who will agree to pay $10/year to keep this site running, and get our own website instead of sucking up to Proboards and their advertising.. I forgot to say, if we switch to 1and1 (or any other shared hosting provider) there will be no advertising. I know enough that after a few hours I could block all Proboards advertising (via my hosts file) but why bother? LOL, I'm seeing right now $659 for an "all inclusive Cancun trip w/Air." For that same amount we could run your site for more than a dozen years! Stanley, send me a PM and I will establish my expert qualifications at the SMF developers site. Others, depending on who you are and my opinion of you I might do the same. Believe me, your forum would vastly improve if you leave Proboards and get your own domain. I'll be happy to convert your board, and then I'll relinquish admin privileges if you want to administrate the technical on your own. (You just change the admin password and I'll be done with it). For those of you who don't know, and to put this post in perspective, Stanley and I have been online friends for several years. If I had just met him I wouldn't be making this post.

Stanley would have full control of his forum and his domain name instead of piggybacking on an advertising site and seeing advertising.
I guess it's a matter of perspective. My shared hosting is running about $100 per year for what is essentially a hobby. That's $2 per week, and that's what I consider to be a cheap hobby.
Jeez, another of my hobbies is art and I can visit the artist supply store and walk away spending $100 on one plastic bag like you get at the supermarket. And I'm not even into oils.
