I've solved the problem of not being able to stay logged in. I still think you should get a shared hosting account and switch to SMF, one of the arguably two best Open Source (free) forum softwares (the other is phpBB) and the two together plus vBulletin ($$$$$) are the three best forum softwares out there IMO.

I've solved the problem of not being able to stay logged in. Glad to hear it. We're happy with what we got, especially since there are only a few of us.

That's the point: "there are only a few of us." The bigger a forum gets the more interesting the discussions become because there's more viewpoints and more activity. That's why I've gotten tired of GA. They drove away many of their most interesting characters and now most of them are clones of each other. I think the solution was adding signin.proboards.com to my cookie non-exclusion list. Everything not on the non-exclusion list gets tossed when I close my browser. I had the board URL in there but signing in involves a different subdomain thanks to the design of the forum software.

I wouldn't mind more viewpoints, but most forums I go to have only a few regulars - as the number of free forums approaches infinity, the number of regulars per forum approaches zero. That's Chinese to me.

Yeah, there's a few nasty people there, particularly their nasty admin. Leon used to hold him in check but now that he's turned over the reins to Tom there's nothing to restrain his nastiness and his insults. There are a lot of intelligent, well informed people there but the nasty few make up for that. I'm looking for a new political discussion site, but I want an active site. Activity inspires me to put more effort into writing good, well thought out, detailed posts. The better my posts are the more interesting the replies get. Look up at your status bar. ".com" is your TLD -- top level domain. "proboards.com" is your domain. "militaryaffairs" is your subdomain. Actually, GA and the few nasty regulars, particularly their nasty admin, have driven off many people, e.g. Joe, and currently affecting me to some degree. My guess is that activity at GA has gone down to about 1/3 to 1/4 of its level when things were running nicely and Leon was in charge. Maybe I'll start my own political forum. Since I already have the hosting service it would cost me only about $12 a year to add it in, and maybe an hour installing the software and organizing the forum. Actually I've been intending to get back into writing forum software and having a live forum really helps. My forum members are my test subjects.
