I'm Greg. Clever choice of a member name, eh? Hey Swampy, you should'a reminded me. I'm so busy with a zillion activities that I forgot about the invite. Anyway folks, I'll put the forum in my rotation for a while and see if there's interesting topics here. Particularly if the people aren't annoying ******. (I put in the asterisks myself. You can pick any word you like.) I like serious and deep discussions about the way the real world works. I like my beliefs to be tested and challenged. I can't learn anything discussing with people who don't know anything more than I do. And I know that some of the stuff I know is wrong, and when that happens I man up to it.

I like serious and deep discussions about the way the real world works. I will be happy to explain to you how this world works: It runs on BS. But look at the bright side, it's the one fuel we're never run out of. Our military especially runs on BS. Even more so during wartime. In fact: "When war is declared, Truth is the first casualty." --Arthur Ponsonby
Now you too know exactly how this world works. And that ain't no BS. But I think Swampy can tell you a lot more about BS. After all, he's a lawyer, so he has to be an expert on BS. ;D -Don Quoteman

Hi Greg, Welcome to the forum and we look forward to your comments. You will find that there are many "experts" here on almost any subject you care to mention. And even those who do not claim expert status, will usually have something to say. You have heard from Don, our expert pessimist, as to how his world works. Pose a question about any other aspect and we'll see what kind of replies you generate. Or, better yet, give us some of your insights and see how may of us disagree with you. Welcome aboard!

"As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand." --Josh Billings-Don Quoteman en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aldous_HuxleyHuxley authored the Brave New World. In the book, the Christian cross has been superseded with the letter "T", from Henry Ford's T-Ford car model. It is unclear to me whether Huxley was being politically hostile, or just plain thoughtless, when writing that "T" letter story. But some time I would love to post here some short stories I have authored -- ones that have been published in the media, I never write anything to be merely stored in my files -- as to the quote about the supply and the demand of truth.

Sorry it took me so long to get back. The housing market is insane: I was spending most of my energy trying to find a house and trying to win bidding wars. I finally succeeded, bought my new home, so now I have time for forums.
I'll participate in this forum if there are some interesting, serious, in depth discussions on US and on global issues.

There have been a ton of serious discussions on military and global issues, particularly in economics and politics.

Welcome back. But I wonder about someone who takes eight months to find a place to live Either you are totally out of touch with the real estate market, or the Los Angeles real estate market is vastly different then where you are, or most likely the L.A. market is similar to high desirability markets across the nation, and probably quite dissimilar to rural and semi-rural areas. My XGF lives in a semi-rural area of IL and she's having serious problems trying to find a new rental house for her and hubby, particularly a place with a lease-to-own contract, even though the prices are ridiculously low there (100K or so). In L.A. you need to spend $350K+ to get even a semi-nice house, and $500K+ to get a house most people would describe is "very nice!" My situation is that I was going sometimes 2-3 weeks with no houses up for sale in my price range (and area: SFV, SCV, Simi) and #bedrooms/bathrooms, etc. I had been following a strategy, making a high enough offer that I would be assured to be in the final bidding (I forgot to say, our inventory is practically non-existent) holding back enough bucks that I could compete in the bidding war. That strategy didn't work. Finally I changed my strategy. I decided there would be no bidding war. I bided my time and when I saw the best house I thought I would get I offered the seller $50K over asking price (cash deal). The seller said they and some other offers several $K under me but they decided to go with me because my offer was higher, in cash, and I was willing to accelerate the escrow closing (less than two weeks). So Jerry your area is vastly different than where I live. Please tell me about where you live, and the real estate market there.
