I asked this in response to another statement, but what is your background? I already answered that in the other topic. If my answer was not adequate there please continue the discussion there.

I have lived in the same house for 35 years now and, after 22 moves in 22 years in the Army, have no thought of ever moving again, so I have little interest in the real estate market, and have no idea what it is like in my area. My comment was meant to jerk your chain

Thank you for jerking my chain. Now I know something more about you, that you are a person who enjoys jerking peoples' chains for no good reason. Yep, you're doing well here. (sarcasm)
Whatever, I just moved into my new house after 33 years living about 10 miles south. I expect to go out of my present house either feet first or I'll move if I have to have assisted living, although I'd rather go the "meals on wheels" and housekeeper route first.
Truth be known I now live in a 2 story house, perhaps not the greatest move for a mid-60s person, but in our local market if you said you'd only see 1 story houses I'd probably still be living in my 5th wheel trailer.
So in about 30+ years I'll be 100, hopefully still living here, although maybe with a lot of call in assistance. Hope I'll still be able to make it up the flight to my bedroom...

I jerk people's chains and rattle their cages for a living It's about the only enjoyment left to me these days. If you can't make it upstairs, you can always get your "Visiting Angle" to move your bed down to your living room and take it from there. After all, at 100+, how many visitors are you gonna have?

I asked this in response to another statement, but what is your background? Here, I accidentally came across my previous answer. I wasn't trying to be difficult, I just don't like to spend my time in duplicating effort. And adding to that, I think that financially speaking, present day America is like being in a car speeding at 120 mph and headed directly towards a freeway abutment. I think really bad times are ahead. I don't see how present government policy extrapolated several years can end in any desirable scenario. I own my own house. I have a large back yard, big enough to grow ample vegetables to feed myself and have some left for barter. I have an ample supply of lead. The only infrastructure I can't do without is water. It doesn't rain enough in inland Los Angeles that I could collect enough water to drink and feed my crops. I don't think it will come to that but I do think that America's course must be radically altered if we want to avoid very bad times ahead.

greg,
"I think really bad times are ahead. I don't see how present government policy extrapolated several years can end in any desirable scenario."
Agree 100%!
If you have read any of my posts on the world economy, both here and on the 'Global Affairs Forum', you will be aware of what my expectations are.
The world will not radically alter its course until it is forced to.

Greg, when you say you have a supply of lead, do you mean ammo? I'm asking because I wonder if you're a survivalist.

I've visited GA from time to time because it's easy to login there and I know the layout. I'll put in some effort for a while to see if I can help get this forum going. I don't recall who you are/were at GA. I recall the '50s/'60s when we thought we might have a nuclear war. (Remember being taught in school that if the teacher yells "drop" you're to get under your desk as quickly as possible?) Things looked bad then but there was no global thermonuclear war. Things look bad today but we still haven't had WW III. Despite having a raving idiot at the WH. I have a post in mind about that subject...

"I recall the '50s/'60s when we thought we might have a nuclear war". Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm too lazy to look at your earlier posts), but didn't you say that you were 53? If so, the 50s were before you were born so your knowledge of hiding under the desk must be from the womb. By the 60s, that part of life was pretty much over (the hiding under the desk part). Some of us here had already been testing under fire. How about you?
