Can we really believe any UN reports? When they agree with me, yes. ;D

I cannot remember the last time I agreed with the UN.
25th June 1950 perhaps, and even then, that was just luck.

Actually, if the UN says something, you can often bet it's wrong. But these statistics, as far as I know, are not disputed by mainstream economists.

Agreed, but the point is that he said religion is the opiate of the masses, while he was promoting his own religion to control the masses. And, of course, his religion collapsed when people in Eastern Europe refused to believe his lies. So religion is not really a means of control. Yes, Marx said that "religion is the opiate of the masses", but to my opinion that is a worthless slogan, such as "all is one" or "all religions are united in the ocean of Hinduism". I agree that Communism is very comparable to a religion. Religion as a philosophical phenomenon constitutes to my knowledge a way to comprehend and handle the numenical reality as theologians say; as such it is indeed not a mind control medium; but it can be used, and to my opinion has been used as one. Only my humble opinion.

Communism is a religion, bluejay, and, since 1989, it's become a fringe movement with only a few fanatics left.

Please don't make analogies too easily. Anyway, whether any particular -ism is a religion, depends upon the qualities of that -ism. How would you define the qualities of communism? I noted that it -- to my humble opinion -- does have many points in common with religions.

Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe." ( 1994 AHD3)IOW, religion is superstitious nonsense. Communism is just pure nonsense.

-Don- OK; then calling communism a "religion" is a metaphorical use of language. I agree with you that communism is craziness, unfortunately that craziness enticed a certain group of individuals (it won't any more.) My American acquaintances, as I said, said to me that a person needs a religion as much as a fish needs an umbrella.........

Your last sentence is assinine - not that you are, just the sentence. There are countless millions in the world who could not survive without faith. They NEED religion or faith of whatever sustains them. The sentence is a cute one but doesn't address the millions who would argue against it.

Would they kill themselves without their religious nonsense or what?

For many others, a life without faith is unfathomable. For people like you, it is never understandable why people need faith or something to believe in. You will never be convinced and I'll never try. I'm not a particularly religious person but I completely understand why some people NEED it.
