Don't forget, Jerry, the million or so refugees who fled the north before that wall came down.

The VC were communists from the south, as opposed to the NVA, who were military personnel from the north. Sometimes. The NLF was made up of various groups that wanted us out, such as Buddhists who didn't like the Catholic puppet government (Diem) we stuck the south with. Communism wasn't the big issue to most in Vietnam. Not even to the north. Their main thing in the north was a united and independent Vietnam and they asked the commie USSR for help in doing so, since we wouldn't help them kick out the French.
I read somewhere that Uncle Ho very reluctantly asked the USSR for help, knowing they might be as hard to get rid of as the French.

Ho came from the anti-French via anti-Colonial Powers to Socialism and made first contact with the communists even before WWII.

I've heard about that. How does the advent of mechanical chainsaws change things?

The VC knew they were coming anyway, they could smell the after shave.

The VC knew they were coming anyway, they could smell the after shave. I hear that's a myth - no human has that sense of smell.

After the 3 or 4 th week of tet , I got to thinking mien Gott will it never end , where in the hell do these people come from , the Americans are killing them as fast as possible , the NVA were the enforcers they made sure the VC kept at it , the NVA fought to the last VC standing .
